Description
Johnny Cash’s deep baritone voice was instantly recognizable. When he passed away in 2003, country music lost one of its original rebels. Johnny was such a rebel, in fact, that the first black Martin ever produced was built at Johnny’s request behind the back of Martin’s president C. F. Martin III, as he didn’t want a black Martin to be built. C. F. Martin III actually didn’t find out that the guitar had been built until he saw Johnny Cash play the black Martin on “Columbo.” The D-35 was Johnny’s favorite axe, and it accompanied him onstage for nearly 20 years.
