Description
Three years out from its second major overhaul, the evolution of Fender’s Precision Bass into the instrument we know and love was nearly complete. Introduced in 1951 as the first mass-produced solidbody electric bass guitar, the P Bass’s original slab body received the sleek body contours of the recently released Stratocaster guitar in 1954. In 1957, its single-coil pickup was changed to the familiar split-coil design that has endured to this day. By the turn of the decade, rosewood fingerboards had replaced 1-piece maple neck/fingerboards in Fender’s lineup, but for the time being, the P Bass’s original 1.7-inch-wide nut remained. Meticulously handcrafted in California by Fender’s senior luthiers, the Fender Custom Shop Limited-edition ’60 Precision Bass Heavy Relic nails the tone, playability, and visuals of this iconic instrument in this critical transitional period. But in a nod to today’s player preferences, its flat-lam fingerboard sports a modern 9.5-inch-radius for enhanced playability.
