Visually, the Fender Custom Shop Postmodern Stratocaster Journeyman Relic is a tribute to Fender’s Golden Age; however, it’s packed with advanced modern tech — with genius in the details. This remarkable guitar’s beauty, tone, and sumptuous playability are no accident. Delightfully lightweight, this guitar features a 2-piece select alder body, to which is bolted a rift-sawn ’60s Oval “C” rift-sawn maple neck crowned by a smoothly buffed AAA rosewood fingerboard with luxuriously rolled edges. But in a nod to modern high performance, this ’board has a 9.5–12-inch compound radius and 21 jumbo frets to accommodate modern playing styles such as tapping and aggressive shredding. While Fender’s innovative “Synchronized Tremolo” bridge delivered the smooth vibrato heard on popular surf records in the early ’60s, today’s optimized Custom Shop Vintage version is onboard this axe. And pumping out that legendary Strat tone is a trio of hand-wound Custom Shop Dual-Mag II Strat pickups. All wrapped up in a artfully aged nitrocellulose lacquer finish with aged hardware and a shell pickguard, the Fender Custom Shop Postmodern Stratocaster Journeyman Relic looks like a a lovingly cared-for Golden Era Fender that’s seen decades of light playing wear. But it plays like a modern demon.
