Roughly 100 years back in history, Hawaiian music descended on America’s shores with ukuleles, lap steels, and — most importantly for Martin — the arrival of beautiful Hawaiian koa wood. The HG-28 Special Edition O’ahu pays tribute to this foundational era in Martin history, blending the timeless tone of koa with a smaller, more approachable take on the dreadnought body.
It begins with a solid spruce top supported by scalloped X-bracing, paired with stunning solid flamed Hawaiian koa back and sides. Thanks to its 24.9-inch scale length, 000-size body depth, and slope-shouldered design, the HG-28 Special Edition O’ahu delivers a more balanced, refined voice than a traditional dreadnought — while remaining far more comfortable to hold.
Playability is equally impressive, with a GE Modified Low Oval neck made from select hardwood that allows fast, fluid movement across the ebony fingerboard. Finished with a vintage-style rectangular bridge, elegant herringbone trim, and nickel open-gear tuners, the HG-28 Special Edition O’ahu is perfectly suited for slack key, fingerstyle, or flatpicking applications.
