First introduced in 1932, the Gibson L-00 remains the most iconic and best-known small-body acoustic in Gibson’s storied history. The L-00 Special carries that legacy forward, offering a USA-built Gibson acoustic at a highly accessible price point.
Handcrafted by Gibson’s expert acoustic luthiers in Bozeman, Montana, the L-00 Special features solid mahogany back and sides paired with a solid Sitka spruce top, reinforced by traditional scalloped X-bracing. This construction delivers a balanced voice, excellent dynamic range, and a focused response ideally suited to a compact acoustic guitar.
The narrow waist of the L-00 body shape produces a tight, controlled low end, allowing the guitar to sit perfectly in a mix. It excels at fingerstyle and blues, while remaining versatile enough for a wide range of playing styles. The utile neck, attached using a compound dovetail joint with hot hide glue, features a SlimTaper profile that feels fast and comfortable. A rosewood fingerboard with a 12" radius, 19 standard frets, and simple mother-of-pearl dot inlays completes the classic feel.
A rectangular rosewood bridge fitted with a TUSQ saddle, along with a TUSQ nut and bridge pins, ensures efficient vibration transfer. Grover Mini Rotomatic tuners provide dependable tuning stability. Finished in satin nitrocellulose lacquer, the L-00 Special is available in Satin Vintage Sunburst or Satin Wine Red.
Equipped with an L.R. Baggs Element Bronze active under-saddle pickup and a soundhole-mounted volume control, the L-00 Special is stage- and studio-ready straight out of its premium soft shell case.
